Enhancing maize performance through precision phenotyping

PHENO_MaizE Annual Meeting

PHENO_MaizE Annual Meeting – Last week, the PHENO_MaizE team gathered for our annual meeting to share and discuss the results and progress achieved in the first project year, as well as to build plans and workflows for the next, more challenging phase.

What Have We Accomplished So Far?

  • Purchased and installed all necessary equipment for the project, including a UAV, a high-performance computer with a powerful GPU unit, and photogrammetry software.
  • Conducted training sessions on UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) monitoring in Serbia and plant image analysis in the Netherlands.
  • Delivered 14 RGB orthomosaics and DEMs (Digital Elevation Models) of corn trials from two locations in Serbia, as part of our efforts to establish a robust protocol for field imaging.
  • Established a photogrammetry protocol for creating orthomosaics and DEMs.
  • Incresead the seed for the experiments planned in 2025 and 2026.
  • Shared project ideas and results through multiple channels, including our webpage, LinkedIn, the Agriculture Fair, and the VII Congress of the Serbian Genetic Society.

Looking Ahead

The first year posed significant challenges, but we are proud of how much we have achieved and the strong foundation we have built. The second year promises to be even more demanding, but we are ready to tackle new challenges and tasks with enthusiasm and determination.

We extend our warmest wishes to all our colleagues and followers for a happy and prosperous New Year. May it bring success, growth, and exciting new opportunities for all!
